Dana Spaniol
In the spring of 2010, I had the opportunity to work with Kohl's as a store management intern. This experience prepared me to better understand the needs of stores in relation to corporate level merchants; it has shown me the needs and wants of the customer at the store level, and it has given me more understanding of what products and merchandise presentations work better in stores. I am from Cocoa Beach, Florida, and I am a graduating senior in the Retailing and Consumer Sciences Major. I am thrilled to be a part of a major surrounded by such wonderful people, and such amazing opportunities for advancement in the stimulating field of retail. In my sixth semester on the Student Advisory Board, I am serving as the Chair for the Board and the liaison to the Platinum Corporate Advisory Board partner Walmart.
I also interned the summers of 2009 and 2010 with Walmart Stores, Inc. in Bentonville, Arkansas in the Merchandising Division. Both of these experiences allowed me to better understand the role, strategy, and daily tasks of a buyer, and helped me to realize that I have the passion for the merchandising side of retailing. In addition, I had the privilege of receiving the first annual Kurt Salmon Associates scholarship in 2009, and am a recipient of the 2010 YMA Fashion Scholarship. Upon graduation from the University of Arizona in May of this year, I will be joining the Walmart team as a Merchant Leadership Program Trainee.
I look forward to the coming semester on the board. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
