Jill Moore
I am thrilled to begin my first semester as an Ambassador on the Student Advisory Board for the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing. I have a great deal of respect for the students who commit their time, energy, and leadership to this program and I hope to bring my own passion and creativity to this inspiring team of students. I am a junior, majoring in retailing and consumer sciences with a general business administration minor and my expected graduation date is May 2013.
The retail industry offers a host of career opportunities and the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing serves as a critical link between the education we receive and the practical realities of working in retail. I personally have been very fortunate to benefit both from the incredible knowledge of our faculty, and the many internship opportunities that are available. I have gained invaluable real-world experience as an intern at the Tilly’s headquarters in Irvine, California and Bloomingdales in Costa Mesa, California. My internships have provided practical experience in the fast-paced world of retail. As an intern I participated in decision-making, marketing, merchandising, visual strategies, and store operations. Creativity is one of my strengths and I thrived creating visual display concepts and a style look book.
The Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing has also afforded me the opportunity to participate in challenging case competitions. For instance, I developed a new merchandising concept for the YMA Scholarship Program, and was selected as a finalist. Representing the University of Arizona at the YMA honoree reception in New York has been one of my college highlights.
In addition to the wonderful experiences I have experienced as a retail major, I also have had a tremendous college experience here at the University of Arizona. I am privileged to have represented the University of Arizona for the past three years as a cheerleader. I also am involved in other on campus organizations such as the TREND Fashion Industry and Design Club, the Retail Entrepreneurial Club, and I am a founding member of the University of Arizona’s National Retail Federation Student Association. Last summer I had the opportunity to travel to Spain with the Eller College of Management to complete by business minor. The saying that you "get back more than you give" is so true, and I have gained a wealth of personal and professional development from my campus involvement. For instance, just this past January I attended the NRF Big Show in Manhattan with my fellow students. It was truly exciting to be in the city where fashion happens! I was in awe of the innovation and technological developments in the retail industry and I cannot wait to be a full-time participant, contributing my own creative energy and ideas.
The Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing offers so much for our students, and as a result, has earned a well-respected reputation for excellence in this exciting industry. I owe this program so much and I look forward to a great semester!!
