As I transition into my last semester, I can’t help but reflect on the outstanding experiences I’ve had during my last three semesters serving on the Terry J. Lundgren Center’s Student Advisory Board. This Fall I continue to serve as the Student Advisory Board Treasurer, where I oversee our budget and help grow our annual Future Retail Leader Scholarship. Last year, we grew the scholarship fund from one to two $1,000 dollar scholarships for outstanding Retailing and Consumer Sciences students, through various fundraisers and sales at our Scholarship Snack Bar.
The leadership growth I have attained through my role on the board, as well as the chance to interact with corporate recruiters and executives prepared me for an outstanding corporate internship experience. During the summer of 2010, I completed a merchandising internship with JCPenney at their corporate office in Plano, TX, and I am excited to return for their full-time merchandise trainee position in February. I am also the 2010 recipient of Shop.org’s merit scholarship. These experiences have been possible through my tenure on the Student Adivosry Board and work with the Center. I am currently the Liaison for Corporate Advisory Board Partners JCPenney and Verizon Wireless.
