Micaiah Galpin

As a student ambassador for the Lundgren Center for Retailing Student Advisory Board I am looking forward to working with our partners in promoting events and activities to UA students. While not originally a Retailing major my promotion at the University of Arizona BookStores to a buying position really helped to open my eyes to the amazing opportunities and possibilities that retailing holds for me and other students.

I have worked for the University of Arizona BookStores for three years. Last year I was recommended and accepted into the Professional Internship Program offered by the Arizona Student Unions. Over the course of a semester my team developed a business proposal to redesign and remerchandise the UMart store on campus. At the end of the semester our project was presented to senior management and administrators and our project was approved. My team and I will now be a part of planning to remerchandise and expand UMart this fall.

As a senior I am working toward finishing my major in Retailing and Consumer Sciences and my double minor in French and General Business Administration. Upon graduation I hope to pursue a career in merchandising. My job and internship have provided me wonderful leadership and retailing experiences that have helped me gain a deep understanding of management, operations, and the consumer. In addition to my experiences and skills gained I have developed a passion for retailing. Being able to recognize what a consumer wants and to then provide that service or product gives me a satisfaction that I had not been able to find in another field of study prior to getting involved with the retailing program. My passion for retailing along with my strong work ethic have helped ensure my position on the board and I am positive that my service on the board will strengthen my passion and knowledge. I am looking forward to serving as a strong liaison for three of our Corporate Advisory Board partners, Bridgestone/Firestone, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and ICSC. I hope to inspire students to realize what thrilling and life-changing career opportunities exist for them.  I believe that there are exciting things in store for the board and the students this semester and I am absolutely delighted that I will get to be a part of it.
