Chelsea Fischer
As my last semester on the Board, I’m honored to serve as Chair of 16 outstanding students on the advisory board. I’m a senior in the Retailing and Consumer Sciences Professional Program, graduating in December 2010. As Chair, I plan to further develop career and leadership opportunities for all of the RCSC students.
I have over four years of in-store experience but after this summer, I have a new appreciation for buying in the corporate office. This summer I ventured off to New York City to work as a Merchant Intern for Ross Stores Buying Office. I was able to apply my analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills to the role of a Buyer as well as learn about opportunistic buying. My experience reinforced my long-held desire to pursue a career in buying or planning.
The Retailing and Consumer Sciences major is one of a kind, teaching us retail marketing and management principles applicable to this fast-paced industry. My classroom experience has provided me with the tools to understand in-store, online, global, and corporate operations. As a Retailing and Consumer Sciences graduate, I know I will be well prepared to launch my career in the retail industry this December.
