Lindsay Godbout
I am looking forward to continuing to serve the Terry J. Lundgren Center as an advisory board member this semester. This is my third semester serving on the Student Advisory Board, and I am pleased to assist the organization in the office of Vice Chair. I am a junior working towards graduating as a Retailing and Consumer Sciences Major in May 2013. I am also pursuing a General Business Minor, and I had the opportunity to complete required coursework over the past summer through the Eller College of Management's summer study abroad program in Spain.
The Retailing and Consumer Sciences program is a tremendous asset of the University of Arizona. The Lundgren Center offers great opportunities for networking, scholarships, and student involvement. I plan to serve as a strong liaison between the newest RCSC full-time majors and the Lundgren Center. I want to increase the RCSC majors' involvement in the Lundgren Center events and clubs and help them build relationships with our amazing partners. In my role as Vice Chair to the Student Advisory Board, my goal is to expand communication between all committees and help increase our efforts in both fundraising and alumni relations.
I am also excited to serve as the committee head for our new NRF Student Association committee. In this role I plan to strengthen the role of NRFSA on our campus and link the association to all of our clubs within the Lundgren Center. The NRFSA has the potential to open many networking doors for all of our RCSC majors through national events, case competitions and other activities. For instance, I was thrilled to recently be named a "Future Face of Retail" by the NRFSA. Through this honor, both I and the U of A received great promotion from the NRFSA.
The United States has a consumer-driven economy and I find the study of retailing and consumer sciences essential for a career in 21st century America. In addition to my academic pursuits, I work in retail as a sales associate at White House Black Market. Through my experiences at White House Black Market, I have gained an understanding about store-level economics within a retail business and have developed first-hand experience in working with consumers. My educational goal is to build on this entry-level practical experience with the business theory that supports retail decision-making. My career goal will be to use my practical foundation and educational knowledge to add value to a national retailer as a member of their team as they grow and expand their business. To that end, I am happy to say that I recently accepted an internship offer with Macy’s Inc. in their buying and planning department this summer in New York City. I look forward to the challenge and learning experience this internship will afford.
