Retail Leadership Institute

Retail Leadership InsituteIf you are looking to sharpen your leadership skills, gain a better understanding of retail strategy or retool and redirect your career, the Retail Leadership Certificate may be for you.  The Retail Leadership Institute at the University of Arizona’s Lundgren Center for Retailing offers a certificate program that includes challenging online coursework and leadership case studies, coupled with the nationally acclaimed Global Retailing Conference. The goal of the Retail Leadership Institute is to help professionals, entrepreneurs and other participants uncover best practices in strategy, management, and leadership of retail operations. The Retail Leadership Certificate offers the flexibility of on-line courses so you can earn academic credit in a self-paced environment. Students enrolling in the certificate program must first be admitted to the University of Arizona as a non-degree seeking student.

Student interested in pursuing a Certificate of Retail Leadership will be required to complete the following:

  • Four online courses (3-units of academic credit), which must include two required courses: 
    1) Financial Analysis and the Retail Enterprise and
    2) Leadership and Talent Management in Retail Operations
  • A capstone Leadership Project
  • Two Global Retailing Conferences, which are held every April in Tucson, Arizona

Courses include the following: (details and registration)

  • Starting the Entrepreneurial Business
  • Managing the Entrepreneurial Business
  • Food Supply and Distribution
  • E-tailing & Customer Management
  • Fashion Forecasting & Research
  • Financial Analysis and the Retail Enterprise
  • Leadership and Talent Management in Retail Operations

Plan of Study is as follows:

  • Phase I – Kickoff (April 1)
  • Global Retailing Conference I, first deposit due
    Attend the conference and meet both faculty and current and future students interested in the certificate                 program

  • Phase II – Coursework (Ongoing)
  • Completion of 4 online courses
    Coursework is self paced and can be completed according to your schedule. For 6 units OR LESS -Tuition rates for courses will follow the approved tuition rates for resident undergraduate students at the University of Arizona. For more than 6 units – Nonresident tuition fees will apply

  • Phase III – Leadership Phase (December 1)
  • Capstone Leadership Project and Global Retailing Conference II
    Participants are placed in cohort groups when they enter this final phase of the program. They complete the capstone case study with their cohort group and present it to faculty at a special session during the conference.

Fees: 

  • Phase I  By April 1 Total - $500
    (Deposit includes Global Retailing Conference I)
  • Phase II  (Depending on registration date) Pay when you register for courses Total - $4674*
    (On-line course registration fee for each 3 unit course - $1168.50/course)
  • Phase III  By December 1 Total - $3500
    (Program fee includes the Capstone Leadership Project and Global Retailing Conference II)
  • Total fees - $8674*
