CareerWise Cats

The Career-Wise Cats program is a career development practicum designed to target students early in their academic careers by introducing them to a career track module that includes resume writing, leadership training, internships in the retailing and service industries and other career-related enrichment
This campus-wide program targets the second year students interested in careers in the companion animal industry.  After successfully completing the application process, students will be admitted as a cohort group and required to complete a one unit “Career Development Seminar” (FCSC 297).

In this seminar students will develop a resume, practice interview skills and focus on the needed leadership and interpersonal skills to be successful in a career. After completing the one unit seminar, students compete for a supervised 3-unit summer field practicum experience in the pet industry, with an emphasis on internships at PetSmart.   Once completing the practicum, students are invited to stay in the program as a Career-Wise Cat, with the responsibility to market the program across campus through guest speaking and other outreach opportunities.  They also participate in retailing career events sponsored by TJL Center.
